About a month ago Sergio Photographer approached us with an idea to do a photo shoot with Serendipity Videography. His vision… a “badass” photo shoot of the Serendipity Videography team. Now anyone who knows Sergio knows that his favorite word is “badass”. He even describes himself as a “badass” Wedding Photographer on his “Blogito”. He wanted an industrial backdrop with bright colors and lots of attitude shots. He described wanting a “rockstar, too cool for school” look.  I am a huge fan of Sergio’s work and follow his blog religiously and the common theme with all of the people he shoots is that they always looks so cool, hip and chic like they belong on the cover of a magazine. Like New York City cool. Just FYI I have a fascination with people who live in NYC. Something about them and their lifestyle just exudes coolness. Anyway Sergio has his subjects pose in all of these ways that make them look fabulous. As I would look at his blog I always secretly wondered if he were to shoot me if I could look as cool as his other subjects so I leapt at the opportunity to have him shoot our team and immediately called for reinforcements. I set an appointment with my great friend Tina who is a hair and make-up stylist to beautify us for the shoot. So we picked a date for the shoot and the location was TBD. He said he would call me an hour before the shoot and let us know the location which was totally fun because it made it feel like a Scavenger Hunt. I’m thinking a downtown location with lots of exposed brick… When his assistant Kelly called she said a tire factory in Mesa…. interesting…. So we headed to the tire factory which was next to a tattoo parlor that was packed considering it was a Monday night. Our shoot with Sergio was exactly as I imagined it would be. He is an incredible artist with a vision that in a million years I could never have. He posed us and positioned us, directed us and told us to work it but in a non-cheesy fashion. At one point he had my hip popping out so far for an attitude pose that I thought for sure would make me sore the next day. He crawled all over the dirty parking lot and with each shot would he would look at the camera and say how “badass” the photos were. Then he took us to this back alley in Mesa with lots of fences and no trespassing signs that we disregarded, anything for the shot right?? He continued to work his magic even as a monsoon brewed above us.

I know I am gushing like I have never had my picture taken before but I truly have never been part of a real photo shoot. Most of the time when I am taking photos I am taking family photos and I have my kids crawling all over me, one is melting down and the other is trying to run the other direction. We all end up looking disheveled and barely escape with one good picture to be used on a holiday card. So this was so much fun. It was also fun being a part of a novelty style shoot. Long story short…. We loved the pictures, we love Sergio and Kelly, and we loved being a part of this project!!! Thank you Sergio Photographer!!

Just a note on who the Serendipity Team is… Jeff (turquoise shirt) and Taryn (hot pink shirt) we own Serendipity Videography. Mike (in black) is Jeff’s right hand man. Alexandria (turquoise shirt) is my left hand women and Seandee (black shirt) is my right hand women. Not photographed but a vital part of the Serendipity Team are Tim, Todd, Colin, Andy, Tina, Stephanie, Janette and Krista.
