Especially this year because we have expanded so much. Luckily we are not at a shortage of fabulous Photographers that we work with. So we asked Melissa Jill Photography if she would shoot us. She is such a trooper because we are a large and rowdy crowd with poor listening skills at times. It was seriously like trying to wrangle cats for Melissa…. but she took it all in stride and rocked the photo shoot. Funny story about our shoot… Melissa Jill has a huge blog following and we went to this old run down farm to shoot and a bunch of other Photographers were shooting there. Anyway with her being such a big name in Photography when she rolled up and started shooting all of the other Photographers quickly realized who she was and were whispering to each other “That’s Melissa Jill….” They stopped what they were doing to watch her work. They tried to be all inconspicuous about it but they were all literally wandering the property watching her from a far as she shot us. One Photographer was hiding behind a car shooting through her long lense watching her every move. It was kinda weird and almost creepy but it didn’t bother her at all. She just did her thing. I do get it though… Now having been shot by Melissa a few times she is very interesting to watch. She doesn’t say much while shooting but you can see her wheels turning. Sometimes I even found myself wondering “What does she see in this spot… I am sitting on broken down lawn furniture in front of a rusted truck? How could this be a good picture.” But she has tremendous vision and those photos ended up being some of the best shots. I have learned being in the creative business that you have to trust the creative artist that you hired and let them do what you hired them to do and not think that you are the expert. The best photo shoots or videos are the ones where the clients allow you to have creative freedom and trust you.

People begin arriving into town tomorrow. It is going to be such a special day!!

A few weeks ago it was time to determine our florals for the event. Now we get to work with some great florists but I have to say that Tamara at Petal Pusher blows my mind. I really got a chance to meet her last fall at Stephanie Fay’s of Stephanie Fay Photography’s wedding at DC Ranch Country Club last October. Stephanie got married on that insanely hot Saturday last October that hit over 100 degrees and I will never forget seeing Tamara misting each and every one of the centerpieces that had Hydrangea in them. As you know Hydrangea does not enjoy the heat very much so she did an incredible job making sure those flowers looked fresh. By the time the reception started each centerpiece looked like it was freshly picked. I will just never forget her commitment to those flowers and most especially her bride and making sure her florals were spectacular. Since that day we have literally had the pleasure of working with Petal Pusher at over 20 weddings and each of her designs is unique, vibrant and sassy. From chabby chic to bright colors that pop Petal Pusher can do it all and with flair!!

So it was no question that I got in touch with Petal Pusher to do my parents florals for their vow renewal. I told her that the color scheme was navy, lime green and white. As soon as I said that I could see her wheels turning. So on a Monday afternoon a few weeks ago we met her at her super comfy studio decorated with a big oversized leather couches and a flat screen where we could review samples of florals she had done by style and color which made it really easy to make selections about what we liked. It felt like we were in a cozy living room and we just had a blast designing the florals. Tamara had so many fun ideas and before you knew it she had designed the ceremony site floral decor that included chinese paper lanterns and wheat grass and navy and green ribbons on the back row of chairs. She drew us a sketch and everything!! I loved how she was able to see our vision but help us develop it and take it to another level, I mean wheat grass? Come on! I would have never thought of that in a million years! For the reception she is using Manzanita trees with votives and crystals hanging from the trees and florals at the base of the trees for the long tables while our round tables will have white square boxes packed full of lush green and white flowers (I wish I knew the names of the flowers). What I do know is that it will be divine!! I can’t wait to show you photos!! It will be pure eye candy for sure!! Thank you Petal Pusher for helping bring the WOW factor to this very special event!!

By far my favorite wedding we have ever shot with her was Neha and Sumit’s wedding this last November at the InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa. Her images are exquisite and she exudes peace and calm on a brides wedding day and it is infectious. She puts her subjects at ease so it is a real joy working with her. We put together a short film of her working her magic behind the lense.
